Japanese writing
The Japanese writing system uses two syllabic scripts called Hiragana and Katakana. Collectively, they are called Kana. It is the objective of this section to teach you how to read and write Kana. The approach is progressive, i.e., first sets of Hiragana characters are shown how to be written then you can download a worksheet for practice writing (for those who are registered for the free Nihongo lessons). The worksheet also contains introductory vocabulary that use the Hiragana characters you previously learned. Of course, you have to memorize the vocabulary as well. When Hiragana is finished, Katakana will be introduced.
The third type of Japanese writing is called Kanji. Kanji (Chinese characters) is usually used for nouns, stems of adjectives and verbs, and Japanese names, will be introduced in the lessons found in the forums.
