About the film

Waterboys (ウォーターボーイズ) is a 2001 comedy film written and directed by the Japanese film director Shinobu Yaguchi, about five boys who start a synchronized swimming team at their high school.

The film was a popular success in Japan, and was nominated for eight prizes at the Japanese Academy Awards, winning awards for 'Best Newcomer' and 'Best Music Score'. A spin-off television series entered its third season in 2005.

The cast includes Satoshi Tsumabuki (Suzuki, the leader of the team), Hiroshi Tamaki (Sato), Akifumi Miura (Ohta), Koen Kondo (Kanazawa), Takatoshi Kaneko (Saotome) and Naoto Takenaka (the dolphin trainer).

Plot

A beautiful new swimming teacher starts work at a rural high school. Dozens of boys decide to join the swimming team, but when they realise that she teaches synchronised swimming all but five of them drop out. The teacher soon leaves work on maternity leave, and for some time the team is on hiatus. However, when Suzuki watches a dolphin show he decides to ask the dolphin trainer to be their coach.

The dolphin trainer exploits them as free labour and has no intention of training them, but the boys nevertheless learn from him. Later, while training in the sea, a camera crew films them, thinking that they are drowning, and the boys appear on TV. Seeing this, the boys who had quit rejoin, and are taught synchronised swimming by the five boys.

Before the festival, the pool area is destroyed, but the girls school lets them use their bigger pool. The synchro swim is successful and attended by many who wanted to see them.

The series also has a second season, shown in July-September 2004 and enjoyed an average rating of 16%. The Waterboys finale/Waterboys 2005/Waterboys SP (2 episodes) was shown in August 2005 and had a rating of 19%.

Synopsis

During the summer two years ago, five high-school boys brought fame to a small town in Japan. What was so unique, was that they formed a "men's synchronized swimming club." Their involvement and struggles while learning synchronized swimming-known to be a sport for girls-brought much attention to their school and town.

Two years have passed since that summer, and the boys of Tadano High School are still in the club. The Fuji Television drama "Water Boys" shows how these young boys fight to learn synchronized swimming, fall in love, and enjoy friendship with one another.

This is a good dorama.  Bagay na bagay ang theme song na Niji ni Masha.

I want to watch this again...will have to look for Chiaki-sama, hehehe.

Ung series naman, meron ako, kaya lang nakakatamad panoorin kasi dvd file sha, hindi kasing ganda ung quality kapag data file! nasanay kasi eh! hehe. 1st episode pa lang yata ako. Okay naman sha pero hindi sha kasing comedy nung movie. astig ung movie eh!

Hindi ko pa rin napapanood yung drama nito, pero tawa ko ng tawa sa movie ^_^ Nakakainspire mag synchronized swimming XD hehe joke lang! hanggang nood lang ako noon! Tuwa pa ko kasi dun sa movie yung Ai no Shirushi ng puffy eh yung ung isa sa mga pinakamadali sa Guitar Freaks, XD

I've seen the movie but not the series...and ang saya-saya ng movie!! ang kulet nung naglalaro sila ng DDR...

I really want to watch the WB series and movie again. Di pa kapansin pansin si Tamaki dito. Lahat ng attention ko ay na kay Tsumabuki, pramis!! Swimming truuuuunks!!!

I'm not a fan of the series, but the movie really kicks ass!  ang daming classic moments!  Grabe talaga yung tawa ko dito!  As in super di ko rin napansin si Hiroshi dito!  Ayoko pa nga maniwala before when my friend told me na sya si Chiaki-sama sa Nodame Cantabile, lol!

Ehhh? Panoorin mo na yung season 1, para kumpletos rekados na ang WB fix mo, hehe. Panalo yung okama dun sa movie, idol na idol.
