    Synopsis:

    Synopsis from D-addicts

Adapted from the best selling book "Train Man," this is the true life story of a geeky young man's romance with a beautiful young lady. The book is based on actual messages posted on a huge internet discussion board in Japan. A million internet users followed the Train Man's romance, giving him advices on how to impress the girl and take her out on dates. Train Man belongs in the so-called "Akiba-kei" category: a term that describes nerdy looking men who hang out at Akihabara (the famous electronics area in Tokyo) all day, who are obsessed with video games and computers. After a long day working, Saori rides the train home only to be involved in an incident that would change her life. Inside the train, Saori is harassed by a heavily drunken man. When the drunk reaches to touch her face, a young man stands up and says, "S... stop that!"

The young man is 23-year old Tsuyoshi Yamada. He is the typical nerd obsessed with anime and computer games. He always hangs out in Akihabara, the electronics center in Tokyo. Tsuyoshi has no interest in fashion and other trends, and his age equals the number of years he hasn't had a girlfriend. He works as a salesman at an employment agency but is always scolded by his boss. The only things Tsuyoshi is usually interested in are anime and video games. But something about Saori's beauty lit a fire in his heart, giving him courage. When he's looking for words to apologize, Saori hands him her date planner. "I want to return a favor, so can you write down your address?" Tsuyoshi is taken back. He has been humiliated a thousand times by women, but never appreciated, especially from a beautiful woman like Saori. Saori has a sweet smile on her face as she watches Tsuyoshi write down his address with shaking hands

He has never had a girlfriend in the past and is at a loss about what to do. That is when he visits a huge internet discussion board for some help. Tsuyoshi immediately becomes the center of attention. Other computer freaks reply one after another. "Call her and say thanks!" "No, it's better to keep it a memory." Reading the heated discussion, Tsuyoshi is touched that so many people are supporting him even though they don't know each other at all. What happens when Saori finds out what the real Tsuyoshi is like? How will she react when she discovers she has become a heroine on an Internet site?

kitaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!! this series is soooooooooo hilarious. this is the funniest and ridiculously swooniest jdorama i’ve seen. watch this closely and you’ll soon realize that you are rolling all over bec of heavy laughs. although a fairytale-like series but that’s beside the point. for a romance-comedy series, every element in this series is perfect, perfect and perfect. the cast … (from the geek to the princess, to the yuppies and chatters, friends and family members) portrayed their respective roles superbly, the cinematography esp that of the princess … wow, soo awesome! the director, producers and writers are just so crazy Geeked and indeed crazier on how were they able to portray the insanities of the japanese people and culture. Party!!!Big SmileBig SmileBig Smile

get a copy and before you start viewing this, make sure you have all the time in the world cuz this is worth for a marathon viewing. btw, densha otoko (train man) is based on a true-to-life story of an otaku. this has a book and movie version, get the tv series (11 episodes) plus the special epi.

    kitaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

So Benoist! More about Densha Otoko. Yes

    =========================================================

    Densha Otoko (Movie version)

The movie version starred (the yummy) Takayuki Yamada and (the hugely popular) Miki Nakatani was a big success at the box office, making the story of Densha Otoko popular. In a small movie theater in Tokyo, anyone who said that they were an otaku got a discount on tickets for the movie.

Atsushi Itō, who played Densha Otoko in the television series, has a cameo appearance as another character in the movie. Yamada also appears in the TV series, in a cameo in the first episode (as the cute salaryman who manages to subdue the drunk guy in the train).

i love this dorama so much! it's so darn funny. if you want serious laughs with some romance, get this one. it's a fresh break from all the love doramas being shown locally.

itou atsushi was great in this series. you'd think he really was an otaku in real life. grabe ang performance.

  • Yes

itou misaki didn't really have to do much. just be beautiful and act delicate. swerte nya super galing ng co-star nya. Stick out tongue

very good supporting cast, especially tsuyoshi's nerd friends, matsunaga and kawabata (?) and the denizens of the a-channel. very different and interesting personalities. hey, shun oguri as a net geek?! that's something new!

    Some Densha Otoko trivia

    • The rain scene where Densha was waiting for Hermes at that clock place (he was waiting for her so he could give a birthday present) took 6 hours to shoot. Brrr!
    • The action figure Minna costs JPY400,000 each. Itoh Atsushi accidentally broke one during shooting. Hehe.
    • The anime opening was specifically made for this dorama. There is actually no existing anime like that.
    • Itoh-kun and Itoh-san have filmed over 1,000 hours together. Yihee!
    • Densha Otoko has also been made as an adult video (AV). Hay naku...

And now they have actually made the real anime series of Minna after Densha Otoko's success. I wonder how much they would sell the Minna figure in the market? Big Smile

Yup, production of the Mina anime started in December last year. Wipee! Big Smile Btw, I saw this original Daicon IV video opening. Wala syang carrots sa likod. Hehe. This is where the Densha Otoko version (opening) was derived from. Just hearing Twilight makes me want to watch Densha Otoko again. Bakit kaya ako naiiyak nung narinig ko yung Twilight?? Stick out tongue

As for the action figure, I suppose they will mass produce it so the price will go down (Law of Supply and Demand). However, because otakus and other fans will surely lap it up the moment it is released in the market, the demand for it will just drive the price up. So I'm guessing the price will be a little bit lower than JPY400,000 but Mina will still come at a pretty steep price. Surprise But then again, price has never been an issue with a true-blue otaku. Big Smile

Also, I would like all Densha Otoko fans here to click this link. They made a translation of the entire compilation of the bulletin board conversation that started the Densha Otoko phenomenon. It's a very interesting read, I'm actually reading it now...There goes my work day! Stick out tongue

    Konnichiwa, mina-san!

Have you seen Densha Otoko Deluxe? Continuation daw nila ito. Here is the synopsis:

Itoh Misaki returns to the role of Hermes in this follow up series to the hit film and TV series Densha Otoko. Find out what happened one year after the events of the original series. He may have got the girl, but did he end up staying with her? Will he be able to make it past the trials of everyday and not-so-everyday life in order to keep the woman he loves? And what about Hermes? Find out in this TV special set in the depths of Akihabara.

    Nakaka-intriga ba? Wink

Naku, sobrang favorite ko itong Densha...glad you like it too! Btw, nakita mo na ang Densha movie? Mas pogi si Densha Otoko dun. Pero mas gusto ko talaga yung dorama. Smile

Yup, basta yung cute na Densha Otoko and the not-so-pretty Hermes. Hehe. Pero IMHO, mas enjoy kasi panoorin ang series kesa sa movie e. Smile

Do you guys remember 'Doumo Arigatou, Mr. Robotto'? The song by STYX? ^_^
