I know that most if not all anime fans prefer subbed to dubbed anime..but if you were to choose between the lesser evil which would you prefer?

Personally, mas prefer ko ung tagalized version..I know, I know some people consider it baduy or whatever, but if you try to listen carefully mas may emotion ung mga bagong anime being dubbed in Tagalog than English. Plus the promounciations are mostly correct. I know there have been great flops in the past..take for instance yun na lang sa Yuyu Hakusho..aside from changing the names of the characters eh they got Kurama all wrong..dubbing him as a girl then making remunerations after to explain kung bakit sya naging lalaki..LOL! Actually, I got to know one of the creatives for that particular anime and asked him about the mistake...but that's another story.. Siguro nasakit lang sa tenga ko ung mga promunciations na alam mo naman kung ano ang tama they you'll hear "Kauro" being pronounced as "Cori" (don't know how they spell it..sorry) or "Feng Shui" being pronounced "Peng Sway" (aiming for pronunciation differences here..hehe!).

Besides that, wala lang enjoy makinig ng tagalog dubbed, makulit eh. It's fun anyways.  

So basically, this thread is a question on what foreign dubbing we prefer? Kc shempre, dubbed din nmn ung Japanese! original lng... pero dubbed pa rin! hehe.

Nakapanood na ko ng non-Japanese dub ng RuroKen in English, Tagalog, Thai at Chinese yta un (hnd ko lng alam kung Mandarin or Fuuk Yien <-- did I spell correctly? haha)... Sa lahat dun, English ang pinakagusto ko. Kahit iniba nila ung names ng people at mali mali ang names of places at wlang sense of history... pansin nmn na pinaghirapan nila ang pag translate. sobrang ganda ng word choice... quotable kung quotable.. minsan mas maganda p ung sinabi kaysa sa subs (shempre.. almost literal translations ang subs). 

I think ung mga lumang anime lng ung maganda ung english dub... pero ung mga bago ngayon, parang minadali n.. marami na kasing subs, so siguro tinitingnan nila ung subs tpos i-ffit n lng s mouth. haha

I cannot stand Tagalog dub... halatang hnd pinaghirapan. paulit ulit ung words na ginagamit.. ung mga voices parang pilit. haayy.

I understand why english dubs do this. kc hirap sila mag pronuounce.. and even native english speaking watchers, aminado sila na sbrang hirap i-pronounce ng Japanese. 

Naalala ko nmn s English dub ng RuroKen, Feng Shui is pronounce correctly, as how it is pronounced by Chinese (mandarin) "Fung Shway". Ung "fun suy" pla na pronunciation dito sa Pinas ay from Cantonese! haha.. kakabasa ko lng! wahahah

ngyahaha!! naaliw ako dun sa "feng shwei" XD mula ng marinig ko un sa TV, un na talaga pag-pronounce ko. 'nakakatuwa pa ung reaction ng mga taong nakakarinig sa akin sa school. the 2nd Ruroken English dub says it right though

grabe dun sa Tagalog ng YYH!! 'nung 1st time kong mapanood un nung grade 3 na-impress ako overall dun sa anime, pero ngayong aired nanaman parang medyo funny na sa pandinig ko, hehe. ung voice pa ni master Genkai (Jeremiah) sa una lalake, tapos naging babae, tapos biglang ung pananalita nya naging parang dialect na na ewan!!

original Japanese dubs sound good in most anime, pero medyo nakakasawa na rin ung super high-pitched voice ng mga female characters. 'pag sa English un hindi gaanong mataas parang ung kay Yukina (sobra sobra sa taas ung Japanese voice nya!! @_@ ) mas nagiging masculine din ung voice ng girly-men characters 'pag dating sa English ver ^_^

ang maganda naman kasi sa Tagalaog dub kayang-kayang ma-pronounce ng maayos both Japanese and English languages XD woOoOoohHh!! tapos dinadagdagan pa ng Pinoy touch kaya mas feel manood minsan (amfufu sa Beck nung sinabihan ung main character na "epal") wahahahah!!!

Ako nagustuhan ko rin yung Tagalized lalo na kapag naging comedy. Ang totoo nyan yung pinaka-unang tinagalog na animation nakakatuwa rin yung pag-dub. Tulad nung visionaries sa channel 2 nun. Naalala ko pa na nakakatawa pag dub nila nun.

Itong huling tinagalog na anime napanood ko yung Eyeshield21. Di ko alam yung tunay na boses nung mayabang na character dun pero naaaliw ako dun sa nag-dub na Pinoy. "Ahahaaay!" Ganun madalas nyang sabihin. Medyo mababaw rason ko pero para sa akin kahit anong language basta nakikita ko kung anong character nung nasa anime ayos na sa akin. 

i believe na when it comes to dubbing, it really depends on the quality of the dub and the dubbers itself... syempre, Filipino-dub is better kc wala na halos language barrier... but some Filipino dubs before were indeed corny or hindi na-convey ng maayos yung message ng kwento/conversation... lately though, maraming magandang Filipino-dubbed animes... I especially like the dubbing for Doraemon, and Pokemon, kc medyo nalalapit do'n sa pinagbasehan eh or talagang bagay na bagay lang... of course with Yu Yu, i still find it amusing to hear the phrases like "...isandaang porsyentong lakas!", albeit the slightly monologue-type of acting...

English-dub is also good, especially kung talagang pinagkagastusan talaga yung pagda-dub like those found in popular ones like Pokemon, Rurouni Kenshin, Cowboy Bebop, and anime movies like Akira, Appleseed, etc.

Of course, original Japanese dub with sub is also good kc it encourages one to learn the language, and can even be good learning materials.

 sa tingin ko mas ok p yung mga lumang dubbed ng mga Tagalog, hindi ko na masyadu gusto yung mga bagong dubbed ngyon. Gusto ko ung pagkakadub s english ng RK at Cowboy Bebop hehe.

I agree with you shoujo_jen - compared to the American dubbers - mas may feelings nga ang mga Filipino mag-dub(talking about the pros). And at least some of them, mas may effort magbago ng boses.

Ya, i've heard about that "dubbing blooper" sa YuYu Hakusho. From what I heard, hindi pa kasi keen ang mga dubber(scriptwriter) nung mga time na yon about working on anime, kaya they thought they should alter the names of the Japanese characters for the audience to understand it. Pero nung magreklamo yung mga fans about what they did - kasama na yung tungkol sa pagkakamali nila sa gender ni Kurama, naging aware na sila mula noon - that is for Telesuccess Productions at least - the company who did YuYu Hakusho, Slam Dunk, Shaman King, & Prince of Tennis to name a few. Since YYH and Flame of Recca, napansin ko, hindi na sila nagbabago ng pangalan at parang mas naging faithful na sila sa original Japanese.

Actually, I don't have any problem with tagalog dubs especially pag matino at sync yung tunog ng mga boses; maayos yung pronunciation ng mga japanese words; at pulido naman ang pagkakasulat ng script. (^_^)

Same here, kiten-san! I also have no problems with tagalized anime. I like to think that our dubbers are improving and that anime is really becoming part of the pop culture. True, maraming mga maging mistakes and faults from the past but as long as we're improving I think it's wonderful.

I've recently attended a teachers' seminar and one of the guest speakers was a Tagalog dubber. I guess she is quite popular (she was Akagi Haruko in Slam Dunk). One of the things she said was dubbers/translators now try to incorporate Japanese words into Tagalized animes instead of trying to force translations. For example, sempai and kouhai are now included in Tagalog-versions of anime. This is good because forcing translations would sound (and feel) really awkward. I have yet to see a nice translation of Yoroshiku onegaishimasu in Tagalog, though ^_^
