Hanazakari no Kimitachi e (Hana Kimi)

Japan TV station FujiTV is filming TV drama Hana Kimi, based on popular manga “Hanazakari no Kimitachi e” by Hisaya Nakajo.

Taiwan has produced the drama in 2006, starring Ella Chen and Wu Zun etc. and achieved great ratings. Perhaps the success has prompted Fujitv to make the Japanese version as well.

The Japanese Hana Kimi will star Maki Horikita, Shun Oguri and Toma Ikuta.

This is the story of the original manga, taken from wikipedia…

Hana-Kimi centers on Mizuki Ashiya, a Japanese girl who lives in the United States. One day, she sees a track and field competition on TV, and becomes attracted to one of the competitors, Izumi Sano, competing in the high jump.

She begins to idolize the young athlete and eventually transfers to Japan to attend the same school that Sano attends. There is a catch, however– Sano attends an all-boys high school, named Osaka Gakuen, and Mizuki must disguise herself as a boy to enter.

    Shun Oguri in Hana-Kimi

Oguri Shun to act as Izumi Sano in Japan’s version of Hana Kimi

    Source: Apple Daily

    Oguri Shun

    Horikita Maki

Based on the Japanese shoujo manga "Hanazakari no Kimitachi e", Taiwan idol drama, Hana Kimi, had produced good ratings & increase the popularity of the male lead.

Seeing the success of Hana Kimi in Taiwan, Fuji Television Network (Japan) had announce that they will be filming Japan’s version of Hana Kimi. They had invited Oguri Shun, who acted as Hanazawa Rui in Japan’s Meteor Garden, to be the male lead.

Oguri Shun had been criticized for not being “pretty boy” for his role as Rui, and now, not suave enough to act as Izumi Sano.

The manga, Hana-Kimi centers on Mizuki Ashiya, a Japanese girl who lives in the United States. One day, she sees a track and field competition on TV, and becomes attracted to one of the competitors, Izumi Sano, competing in the high jump. She begins to idolize the young athlete and eventually transfers to Japan to attend the same school that Sano attends.

Taiwan’s version of Hana Kimi, starring S.H.E member, Ella & Wu Chun was very popular.

Fuji TV plans to air Japan’s version of Hana Kimi in July & has invited both Horikita Maki & Oguri Shun to act as the main leads. Both Oguri Shun & Wu Chun act as Sano. Comparing their height, 184cm Wu Chun wins 180cm Oguri Shun. On the looks department, Wu Chun’s chiselled features resembled the manga’s version of Sano than Oguri Shun. The only advantage 24 years old Oguri Shun has over 27 years old Wu Chun is that he’s younger than the latter.

It’s the first time Horikita Maki will be cross dressing as a guy for her role & will have to cut her hair short next month. She said: “This story is very special, I’m afraid I won’t be able to act well, but I’m anticipating the final product!”

Hmmm....I just want to defend Shun! Ok, not being pretty boy enough is really not something that you'd expect from Shun. I mean, the guy is an ACTOR, not an idol or something. If he were only a pretty boy, then he'd probably be doing all the Casanova roles in Jdoramas...not pick out roles like the one he did for Summer Snow Stick out tongue

Matsuda Seiko to Appear in Hanazakari Drama

Matsuda Seiko to Appear in Hanazakari Drama

Singer Matsuda Seiko (45) is to make her first TV drama appearance in two years. Matsuda took part in filming of the Fuji TV drama "Hanazakari no Kimitachi e" in a Tokyo suburban location yesterday. Based on a hugely popular girl's manga of the same name about a boarding school for handsome boys, the drama will air on Tuesday nights from July 3.

Matsuda plays the school principal, while the main roles are students Sano Izumi (played by Oguri Shun,22), Ashiya Mizuki (Horikita Maki, 18) and Nakatsu Shuuichi (Ikuta Touma, 22). Mizuki is a student returnee from the U.S. who falls for Sano and dresses as a boy to be close to him, while Nakatsu falls for Mizuki without realizing she is a girl (it all sounds a bit like that Blur song "Girls & Boys"!). The story ran in the "Hana to Yume" manga from 1996 to 2004, and as a separate 23-volume series it sold over 13 million copies. A TV drama adaptation became the biggest Mandarin-language hit of 2006 in Taiwan.

Televiews / TV offers potential Magic

Televiews / TV offers potential Magic

In the latest article of Televiews by Wm. Penn for Daily Yomiuri, Penn writes about cool television shows to check out in Japan.

Penn writes, “Had enough of this spring’s dreary school dramas with their overriding emphasis on bullying? Ready for some light-hearted campus entertainment? Well, here comes Hana Zakari no Kimitachi e–Ikemen Paradaisu (To You in Full Bloom–Ikemen Paradise, July 3, 9 p.m., Fuji network), a series I’m downright eager to check out.”

“Maki Horikita stars as a Japanese returnee from the United States who disguises herself as a boy to attend an all-male, live-in academy full of “ikemen” (good-looking guys). Not only will this series give viewers a chance to analyze what qualifies as “ikemen” nowadays, but the casting will provide veteran expats a few chuckles. You see, the principal of this all-guys high school will be none other than that 1980s idol sensation and consummate entertainment world survivor Seiko Matsuda. Yes, Seiko plays the “kocho sensei.”
