Ayaka to be first female artist in Japan to sell over a million copies in over 4 years

Mainichi Shimbun reports that Ayaka will be the first female artist in Japan to sell over a million copies for a debut album with “First Message” in over 4 years.

According to the article, “Sales of singer-songwriter Ayaka’s first album are set to surpass 1 million copies in Oricon Inc.’s rankings to be released next Monday, company officials said.”

    Ayaka J-Pop's First Global Star?

    Ayaka J-Pop's First Global Star?

Singer-songwriter Ayaka (19) is being touted as the J-pop star who just might go global. Yesterday she became the first Japanese artist to have a video released as a world premiere through the iTunes Store. And she is in good company, being just the third artist overall, after Justin Timberlake and Bjork. The video for her upcoming 5th single, "Jewelry Day" (on sale from July 4), was released in ten countries worldwide, including the U.S., the U.K., France, and Germany. And her million-selling debut album, "First Message", is to be distributed in 22 countries at once, a record for a Japanese artist. Ayaka's star quality was clear right from her February 2006 debut single, "I Believe", which reached No.3 on the Oricon chart and sold a quarter of a million copies. The chart-topping success of her 4th single "Mikazuki" brought exposure overseas too, being shown across the continent on MTV Asia. She is currently in the middle of a nationwide tour, and told fans about her iTunes breakthrough during a concert this week in Kanazawa.

So is this why were seeing Ayaka on local record bars? I was quite surprised, but Mikazuki became a a moderate hit (in my circles anyway) here, so maybe its not a bad idea.

Let me re-phrase...record bar lang pala. So far, sa Music One Alabang ko pa lang nakikita. Medyo inconsistent nga sila, kasi almost all of their other branches may Utada albums, tapos walang Ayaka, pero sa Alabang, they don't have Hikki naman...maybe they messed it up with suppliers?

    Ayaka to sing for Doraemon

Singer-songwriter Ayaka has been chosen to supply the theme song for the animated film "Doraemon: Nobita and the Legend of the Green Giant," which opens in theaters on March 8. The song is titled "Te wo Tsunagou."

Ayaka made the announcement on Monday during a performance at Doshisha University, part of her "school festival tour." For her encore, she appeared on stage holding hands with Doraemon, then sang the song for the first time in public. Tokyograph

Re: ayaka (絢香) - 手をつなごう (OUT 2008.03.05)

Singer-songwriter Ayaka may be dating guitarist Toshikazu Wakabayashi, according to the newest issue of FRIDAY. Wakabayashi is a member of the duo Luv Handles and served as a support musician for Ayaka during her nationwide tour and at her Kohaku Uta Gassen performance.

FRIDAY reports that Wakabayashi spent the night at Ayaka's apartment on Christmas Eve. He has reportedly been seen there late at night on other occasions as well.

Ayaka's management says there is no romantic relationship and that another musician, a female violinist, was present at the meeting on Christmas Eve. Tokyograph
