Wabi-Sabi
Something we discussed in our Art Studies class.
What is Wabi-Sabi?
Pared down to its barest essence, wabi-sabi is the Japanese art of finding beauty in imperfection and profundity in nature, of accepting the natural cycle of growth, decay, and death. It's simple, slow, and uncluttered-and it reveres authenticity above all. Wabi-sabi is flea markets, not warehouse stores; aged wood, not Pergo; rice paper, not glass. It celebrates cracks and crevices and all the other marks that time, weather, and loving use leave behind. It reminds us that we are all but transient beings on this planet-that our bodies as well as the material world around us are in the process of returning to the dust from which we came. Through wabi-sabi, we learn to embrace liver spots, rust, and frayed edges, and the march of time they represent.

May program sa BBC about sa paghahanap ng true meaning ng Wabi-Sabi... sabi ng isang monk doon, it doesn't have a concrete definition...
Although, in a nutshell, it means something like impoverished beauty.

Correct me if I am wrong...pero para syang "finding the aesthetic beauty"?

It's like finding a crack in old earthen jar and seeing the beauty of that earthen jar because of all its been through, where it came from and how it survive through the years...sana we also look at people that way.Last edited by shoujo_jen; June 28th, 2010 at 08:28 PM.

Re: Wabi-Sabi
Seems like a taoism-related conforming to nature and what it brings. I always supported Great Yu's actions more than attempting to live only by saliva and air. Anyway, Russeau, Thoreau and Emerson had similar ideals, but I do not really like them. I am critical of modern society, but I do believe it is my duty to set the good example and attempt to change behaviour of people around me, not escape totally from the challenges.
