In the know...
Over 2,000 schools in Japan have closed in the last decade due to the lack of students.
The falling number of students is caused by the low birth rate in Japan through the years, at 9.37 births/1,000 people compared to the Philippines' 24.89 births/1,000 people.
In many Japanese villages, a newly-born child is treated like a "superstar." Villagers offer gifts that could fill-up a room. The new birth is also announced in Newspapers and Radio. To display your gender, kindly follow the instructions: How to enable gender field

Chrysanthemum - the symbol of the Emperor of Japan. His throne is called the 'Chrysanthemum Throne'.
Sakura/cherry blossoms - Traditionally, the most well-loved Japanese flower
Ume/plum blossoms - These flowers signal the start of spring. Once the plum flowers bloom, the sakura can't be far behind.

Thanks for you suggestion.
Usually, "In the know" entries are general trivia about Japan. For instance, "Japan has exported a total of Y100 million worth of video games last year." Is this what you have in mind?To display your gender, kindly follow the instructions: How to enable gender field
