Re: Sawajiri Erika in foul mood at 'Closed Note' PR event

^ Paawa effect? Haha. Dapat bago siya ngpaka-bratty, inisip muna nya ang consequence. May nabasa nga ako ngayon sa Sankei...the director begged the public and the media to stop talking about the Erika brouhaha kasi kawawa naman daw ung movie. Naku, kagagawan ng lead actress niya...

But on the brighter side, Wada Akiko also spoke up, this time to tell people to shut up about Erika since she apologized already.

Soon after that movie event happened, Akko was one of the first to harshly criticize Erika. But at least, she is also one of the first to 'let bygones be bygones'. ^_^

    Bratty Erika in interview

Here is a part of her interview - I am not sure of the date. This was supposed to be her last message to fans. The host asked her if there is anything she would like to say to fans and other people. She just stared at the camera, as if to say 'Grooowl'. Wala lang, sayang siya...

Erika Sawajiri Apologizes After Fans Complaint

    http://www.asianpopcorn.com/default.asp?Display=1030

Japanese actress Erika Sawajiri has had to make a shame-faced apology after fans reacted with outrage to her petulant display at an event to promote her latest movie.

The 21-year-old actress Erika Sawajiri infuriated movie-goers last weekend when she gave nothing more than single word replies to prompts from a MC trying to spark some life into the promotional event for "Closed Note," Erika Sawajiri's new movie 'Closed Note'.

Irate fans were so embittered by Erika Sawajiri's snooty display, they flooded the movie's official website with so many complaints its distributor Toho was forced to shut down the page.

Furor followed until Erika Sawajiri had to eat humble pie and issue a possibly career-saving apology on the website of her talent agency Stardust on Tuesday afternoon.

"I've created a tremendous amount of trouble for all concerned and I'm terribly sorry," Yukan Fuji quotes the message posted in Erika Sawajiri's name. "I was the cause of all the bad things that happened at the event and I intend to take responsibility for my actions. What happened proved to me that I still have a lot of growing up to do."

Onlookers suspected something was amiss before the greeting held in a preview of "Closed Note" at the Nichigeki Theater in Tokyo's Yurakucho district on Sept. 29 when Erika Sawajiri turned up in a long, blonde wig and wearing a leopard-skin dress. Their fears were confirmed when she muttered a simple, "Thanks for coming," then folded her arms and stood silently with a snooty look on her face as events unfolded.

MC Miki Tominaga tried to gee up the young actress with plenty of prompts, including asking her what her favorite scene in "Closed Note" was, but Sawajiri merely snarled, "Nothing in particular."

Fellow cast members including Yuko Takeuchi, the movie's director and others appearing on stage with Sawajiri did their best to liven up proceedings, but the night had already fallen flat. Sawajiri made things even worse when she kept everybody waiting until she was ready when it came time for a group photo session.

Yukan Fuji notes that disgusted spectators let loose on Toho's "Closed Note" website.

"I was looking forward to the movie, but after what went on, I'm not going to see it now," one audience participant writes.

Another adds: "Who the hell does (Sawajiri) think she is?"

So great was the ill-will Erika Sawajiri managed to generate, Toho shut down the movie's website, proving that not all publicity is good publicity. Movie industry pundits expect Erika Sawajiri's tantrum will have adverse effects on the movie's box office.

Ripples stemming from the incident spread far and wide. Erika Sawajiri was widely criticized in the media. And MC Tominaga blasted her.

"We belong to the same talent agency, so I wanted to try and end things on a high note," the lowbrow afternoon tabloid quotes Tominaga saying in a message posted on her blog on Monday.

Further unwanted publicity was generated when Tominaga's blog message was removed not long after she had posted it, once again drawing attention to the actress's antics.

Sawajiri posted her apology on Tuesday afternoon to try and quell the fuss. She'll get a chance to redeem herself on Saturday, when she's due to promote "Closed Note" at the Pusan International Film Festival, where fans hope she'll live up to her word.

"I think it's time for me to take a good, hard look at myself," Sawajiri says in her apology posted in Yukan Fuji. "I'm really, really sorry for everything that happened."

Naku, ewan ko lang ha, baka batuhin lang siya ng fans come Saturday. >.<

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jq1k2MaY-y8

Above is a Youtube vid of the Closed Note press event. Let me give a blow-by-blow account, hehe.

Erika and the rest of the cast come to the stage. She is wearing a blond wig.

00:30 - When the MC (Tominaga) asked her to say something to the people who watched the movie, she simply said "Mina-san, kyou wa doumo arigatou gozaimashita" (Thank you for coming, everyone).

The people watching the same video from a studio were probably thinking that this was her character in the movie. Yeah sure.

00:44 - It was Takeuchi Yuko-san's turn. Someone from the audience called her 'Takeuchi-sensei' and she smiled in an embarrassed/flattered way. ^_^ She thanked the people for coming to see the movie, and commented that being called sensei made her forget what she wanted to say. Cute. Camera pans over Erika, who looked bored. Next to greet the crowd was Tanaka Tetsushi, who introduced himself as 'Natsume', his role in the movie. Next was little girl Yamaguchi Megumi. The three of them greeted the crowd with big smiles. Erika has her arms folded and her face sullen.

01:19 - MC wants to know the cast members' favorite movie scenes, starting with Erika. Erika answers 'Toku ni nai desu' (Nothing in particular). MC was surprised, and tried to recover by saying that probably Erika meant she liked all of the scenes. Then the MC made a follow-up, asking what Erika felt when she was making cookies during the filming...to which Erika said 'Betsu ni' (Translation not needed, right?! :P)

02:55 - Erika spoke only 3 times during the press event.

03:00 - Photo op with the cast holding the 'Closed Note' title banner...surprise, Erika was the only one not holding the banner!

Finished! At natawa daw ako sa latest comment. Sabi nung poster na si absinthe204 "Was she trying to act like Gackt?"

Oi, oi, oi! I resent that! Gackt may act cool all the time, but he was never rude like Erika Wink

Action Teacher! An Eikaiwa Lesson on Erika-sama

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgRqPKMlLtU

Just saw this video on YT. An English teacher used the recent Erika videos as teaching materials for his English class. He used in context the words 'rude', 'impolite' and even introduced the expression 'to give one the cold shoulder'. Cool! I hope I can be a teacher like that too. Salamat kay Action Teacher, I now have ideas for future Nihongo classes ^_^

    Re: Bratty Erika in interview

You're welcome! ^_^ Sayang talaga, maski nag-apologize na siya, medyo malaki ung damage dun sa movie at siguro sa career na rin niya. Ang excuse nila, she has been to so many press cons and interviews for the movie, and pagod na daw ata. Duh.

Accused of being an arrogant prima donna, Japanese actress Erika Sawajiri admits: I've let people down

    http://newpaper.asia1.com.sg/show/story/0,...,145038,00.html?

SHE looks oh-so-lovable, but Erika Sawajiri is actually the most hated female celebrity in Japan now.

Rising to fame two years ago in the romantic TV serial One Liter Of Tears, the 21-year-old actress-turned-singer is known for playing sweet, demure roles.

In the film Sugar And Spice, which opens here on 8 Nov, she plays the sweet-faced dream girl of a 17-year-old boy (Yuya Yagira) on the brink of adulthood.

But Erika, who has exotic Japanese/French-Algerian looks, turns out to be more of a chilli padi in real life. Maybe fame inflated her ego - she was often accused by the media of arrogance and prima donna behaviour in the past year.

Readers of Bubka magazine even voted her the Most Hated Female Star In 2007.

Now, she has finally paid a teary price for her bad attitude.

While promoting her new romantic film Closed Note in Tokyo two weeks ago, Erika incensed the audience by sulking on stage, crossing her arms and giving disinterested, one-word replies to the emcee's questions.

The result? Media reports lashed out at her lack of professionalism, while fellow artistes like veteran singer Akiko Wada blasted her attitude.

Angry detractors flooded the movie's website to post complaints about Erika. Advertisers' confidence was reportedly shaken, and there was talk of her company banishing her to cold storage as punishment.

The public outrage was so strong - some even threatened to boycott the movie - that Erika had to step out to make a 'shame-faced apology' for her 'petulant display', reported Mainichi Daily News.

She first posted an apology on her official website, and then appeared on TV to say sorry in person. On the TV programme Super Morning, she said she was feeling moody due to 'personal reasons', but did not elaborate.

When asked what she would like to say to her supporters, she burst into tears after a long silence.

'My behaviour spoilt everything and created trouble for the crew. It's all because I'm not mature enough, and I'm sorry that I was not able to live up to people's expectations of me and I let them down,' she said.

Still, some quarters are not convinced that Erika is truly repentant. Her tears sparked another huge debate online, with detractors saying that it was an act to win sympathy votes.

It may take some time to soothe the hostility against Erika, and she has wisely shunned the limelight since. Maybe the saga is a good wake-up call to shake some sense into the actress.

    PROMISING

Despite being touted as one of the most promising new generation stars alongside Masami Nagasawa, Erika has been getting attention for the wrong reasons this year.

Increasing, she is becoming known as a wild babe who doesn't care about what others think - deemed a no-no in Japan's conformist society.

It gels with her musical image as a rocker.

Erika was voted 'the artiste who seems to have the worst personality' in an online poll this year.

Apparently, she once got so drunk that she exposed part of her breasts on the dance floor.

Flash magazine caught her breaking traffic rules in May, driving her BMW without the compulsory probationary plate. She got her driver's licence only early this year.

Last month, tabloids published steamy photos of her kissing her 43-year-old boyfriend in his Porsche. Despite all the negative news about her, Erika seemed to remain cheerful.

Until the sulky saga, that is. She said in a magazine interview earlier this year that she often reads all the gossip reports about herself online. But they don't bother her.

'There are some misunderstood parts, but I don't think they are 100 per cent untrue. People write such bad things about me, and I'd be thinking, 'I have this side too?'

Hopefully, her optimism will help her survive her latest bout of bad press too.

Lol, adik 'tong babae na 'to. Well, may worth naman yung sorry niya most probably, she might have regained the support of half of her fans, maybe, maybe..Sa galing niyang umarte, maniniwala ka pa bang she's really sorry for her behavior? Of course not! but still, isa pa rin siya sa mga favorite kong actress kasi magaling talaga siya umarte, hehe, well yan kung acting lang talaga ang basis XD yes! Sawajiri is the ultimate actress! hehe XD

I wonder kung saan siya nagtatago ngayon? Stick out tongue It's good that she is out of the public eye for now, pero tingin ko medyo matatagalan pa bago nila malimutan ung ginawa ni Erika-sama.

Though I still agree with spitz-san, Erika is one of the best young actresses in Japan right now ^_^
