Ayumi Hamasaki's Successful Concert in Shanghai

Hamasaki Ayumi’s show in Shanghai is 100% live, costumes changes for every 2 songs

A message on Hamasaki Ayumi’s Shanghai forum on 23rd April goes: “Even though the weather was bad, yesterday’s performance at the Shanghai Grand Stage was the most passionate concert in recent years. 100% audience attendance was also seen at Tsai Chin’s (a popular Taiwan singer) concert, but such fans’ excitement and cheers for the few hours of the show is very rare.” Japanese Pop Queen Hamasaki Ayumi, whose 2007 Asia Tour is greatly anticipated by fans from all over Asia, held its grand show in Shanghai yesterday.

Yesterday was the last stop of ayumi’s tour in Asia. Nearly all of the seats were filled, proving to ayu the place she had in China fans’ hearts, and the cheers from the fans gathered was enough to touch ayumi’s heart. Before the show even started, the gathered fans were unable to suppress their excitement anymore, and screams of “ayu” were heard from all over the place.

Ayumi’s concert began punctually at 7.45pm. When the curtains were raised, ayu indeed descended onto the stage from above. The sight of her wearing an elegant but sexy tight black gown, sitting in midair on a swing and illuminated by light, stunned the whole audience. The fans’ passion were thus ignited, and the opening song “evolution” was sung amidst the screams and cheers from fans.

This ever-changing Queen’s costumes were definitely yesterday’s main highlight. For every 2 songs, she will change her costume, and proved her title of “fashion icon” to the audience present.

During her previous concert in HK, ayumi was accused of lip-syncing by Eason Chan and other artistes, creating a massive dispute. Hence, reporters took special notice of her singing last night, and true to the claim of the sponsors, ayumi’s whole show was sung live. Following the vigorous continuous fast song routine, she was already sweating, and there were even occasional soft pants coming from her as she sang and danced. Professionals at the concert have decided that this is normal and is definitely a real live show.

Interesting fact 1: First ever Shanghai concert to have bag-check

“Any audio and video recording devices are not allowed for this performance…” The warning was the first thing reporters heard last night when they entered the Grand Stage. Even though other international artistes who had concerts in Shanghai also received this treatment, ayumi’s concert was the first to have conducted a bag-check as well.

According to the reporters, the barring of recording devices in ayumi’s concerts is not an unusual thing. As the reporters entered the arena, there was a special security guard who requested for a bag-check, but due to the vast amounts of people, there were many who managed to get past the guard. During the concert, staff members kept a strict eye on the audience, and anyone caught taking photos were taken care of immediately. This kind of security was the first for the Shanghai Grand Stage.

Interesting fact 2: Desperate fan purchases 2 tickets

From Jacky Cheung to Hamasaki Ayumi, the concerts at the Shanghai Grand Stage and Stadium had a significant number of “fake” audiences. Naturally, the fans who bought these fake tickets were very unhappy, but reporters found out last night that they were willing to take the risk just to see their idol live.

“The first time, I spent 150 yuan on a 400 yuan ticket, and it turned out to be fake.” A female fan told reporters. She had been a fan of ayumi since her high-school days, and really wanted to see her concert this time. Therefore, she took the risk and decided to buy a ticket online. The second time, she bought a 600 yuan ticket for only 400 yuan, and the seller even escorted her into the arena personally, finally fulfilling her wish. Even though there were unhappy experiences, this fan was still very excited, “As long as I get to see her, any amount of money will be worth it”.

Ever-changing Queen Hamasaki Ayumi held a grand show at Shanghai yesterday

This is the most stunning concert in Shanghai in recent years. During “evolution”, the ever-changing ayu descended from the sky, wearing a low-cut black gown. The Grand Stage was filled with screams and shouts from the audience, all till the end. Yesterday, ayumi held her concert at the Shanghai Grand Stage. All 7000 seats were sold out, and many fans who could not get tickets hung around outside the venue to listen to her performance. Ayumi lived up to her name of “ever-changing Queen”, appearing in many grand costumes of her own design, putting up the best show in Shanghai in recent years.

Fans squeeze into the Grand Stage

Due to the sponsor’s promotion, the concert tickets were sold out within a mere 10 hours, breaking the record for shortest time for ticket sales in Shanghai. Even though the weather was bad yesterday, with freezing temperatures, rain and strong winds, passionate fans came to the Grand Stage early to show support for ayumi’s first concert in China. Even before 7pm, the entire area outside the venue was already packed. This concert was similar to her Japan ones, where concert souvenirs were sold outside the venue. Such included a memorial booklet (240 yuan), towel (200 yuan), ayupan (35 and 50 yuan), and CDs. Due to the fact that these Japanese goods were limited, about 1000 people queued up for them, making an impressive sight. However, as many fans wished to buy all these goods, the scene became very chaotic. In the end, security had to be employed and the sale of goods was stopped. Stall holders apologized and said “If we continue this, someone is bound to die”, disappointing fans who had been queuing for hours. Before 7.30pm, the whole arena was packed with ayumi fans, many of them wearing some sort of uniform attire. They held placards with supportive messages written in Japanese, “Hamasaki Ayumi, you will forever be the darling in our hearts”.

    A sexy performance

When the lights dimmed, the arena immediately erupted into loud cheers of “ayu! ayu!”, which were heard throughout the whole concert whenever ayu was not on stage. At 7.45pm, “evolution” started to play, and a blonde ayumi, wearing a low-cut black gown, descended from the sky, immediately igniting the atmosphere. All the fans rose from their seats to cheer for their idol, and the atmosphere was very passionate. For the concert, ayumi chose many fast dance songs, and her costumes were on the sexy side, many being tight mini-skirts. One of the costumes, a fresh red kimono, was especially beautiful. Ayumi went through a total of 8 costumes altogether, changing once every 2 songs. The speed at which she changed and her beautiful costumes were very stunning.

Ayumi had been accused of copying her beloved idol Madonna, but during yesterday’s concert, she still bravely placed her love for her idol on stage. One scene featured her being pinned onto a crucifix, an idea which Madonna used in her concert last year. However, the fans did not care about this. In their eyes, ayumi will always be the first in the world. When the light shined on ayumi on the crucifix, the fans erupted once again into crazy passionate cheers. Before this scene, a double wearing a mask and dressed exactly like ayumi could still be seen dancing on stage, and suddenly the real ayumi appeared in midair suspended on a silver cross, making fans scream in surprise at the magic act.

*actually ayumi did do the crucifix before Madonna in her countdown live 05-06 during the performance of 'endless sorrow'. Madonna did it later in her confessions tour in 06.*

The whole concert could be said to be perfect. Aside from having suitable effects to fit her costumes, ayumi also used a microphone studded with jewels. Even her earphones were specially studded with jewels, dazzling everyone. However, being caught up in the heat of the moment, ayumi forgot her lyrics again. The sight of her sticking out her tongue and apologizing was very cute.

    An hour long encore

At 9pm, ayumi bowed and thanked the audience. The fans refused to leave, staying around and shouting her name. After about 5 minutes, ayumi appeared wearing casual clothes. In order to show their passion, the fans sang a song together for ayumi, causing a happy ayumi to shout “Great”.

During this, ayumi even specially used Mandarin to greet everyone. She also fulfilled the promise she made at the press conference, using the Shanghai accent to say “Hello everyone, I am Hamasaki Ayumi!”, earning cheers from the fans. Even guitarist Yoshio spoke a little Mandarin with ayu, the latter praising the good food in Shanghai and saying that she wished to dine with everyone, and the former asking if everyone wished to have a concert like this everyday. The atmosphere was very high. Ayumi conducted the session sitting on the step in the middle of the stage, often letting off happy laughter. At the end, ayumi put down her microphone and shouted “Thank you!” into the audience, and many fans left in tears.

Queen ayumi has many food requests

Before ayumi came to Shanghai, the Japan side has requested that her room should always have her favourite red globe grapes. The sponsors also had to specially prepare steamed dumplings, curry rice, beef rice and other simple meals for her. Ayumi is also allergic to foods like milk, and seafood like crabs and shrimp. She would also not eat onions, oysters and preserved fish.

Ayumi specially brought along 10+ humidifiers from Japan for this Shanghai trip, to install in her presidential suite at the Four Seasons Hotel and her rest room at the Grand Stage. Ayumi also brought along her own blanket and pillow, as well as toiletries like shampoo and toothpaste.

Saloon car costs 10,000 yuan per day

For this Shanghai trip, sponsors specially arranged for a 1,000,000 yuan Benz saloon car to be her personal vehicle, which costs 10,000 yuan just for daily rent. Her Queen status did not stop there. On the plane, her favourite seat is the first row in the first-class cabin, and the seat opposite her is reserved only for her beloved teddy bear.

Hamasaki Ayumi likes flashing her cash?

Hamasaki Ayumi likes flashing her cash?

In a recent article on Wai Wai, the article is about how pop diva Hamasaki Ayumi tends to flaunt her cash.

According to the article, “Whenever she goes out drinking, she makes sure she is surrounded by at least 10 men. They’ll go to three or four bars before heading off to her favorite drinking places at (Tokyo’s gay district of) Shinjuku Ni-Chome,” a Tokyo-based TV network employee tells Asahi Geino. “She’ll foot the bill for 14 or 15 guys in there, too.”

“She always books four First Class seats every time she flies. Three of those seats are for her, so she can easily lie around and feel relaxed,” the TV network worker tells Asahi Geino. “But you wouldn’t believe who the fourth seat’s for - her favorite teddy bear!!”

    Ayumi Likes HK

Japanese diva, Ayumi Hamasaki has always liked Hong Kong. Beside from flying to Hong Kong to shoot her photo book and MVs in the previous year, the singer has decided to return to Hong Kong this year, in June, and has chosen Shawn Yue to star as the male lead in the MVs. Edison Chen was also considered to take the job but because he looks younger than Ayumi, it was decided that he was unsuitable for the role.

Ayumi Hamasaki has been concentrating heavily on the Asian market in the past year. After having a concert tour throughout Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, the star is now concentrating on concerts to be held in her homeland. Despite being accused to be lip-syncing during her concert by Hong Kong singer, Eason Chan, Ayumi has not lost her feelings towards the region.

6 months ago, Ayumi attended the premier of Hong Kong movie 'Confessions of Pain', which caused her to admire the director, Andrew Lau a lot. Ayumi has also requested for the Hong Kong director to direct her MVs. Her sincerity has been shown through her company, Avex, who has been sending representatives to talk to Andrew Lau for the past few months. When reporters telephoned Andrew Lau yesterday, he confirmed that plans to work together had been made, he said, "As I will be flying to USA tomorrow, we cannot work together this time. (Have they found someone else to be the director?) I do not know about this but I am sure there will be a chance for us to collaborate."

    Hamasaki Ayumi Crucified in Fukuoka

     Hamasaki Ayumi Crucified in Fukuoka

Self-styled 21st century pop queen Hamasaki Ayumi (28) finished off her ¥1.8-billion, 16-show Asian tour on Sunday. For the first time, she finished a tour with a concert in her hometown of Fukuoka, playing the Marine Messe convention center.

The tour featured Ayu's first solo concerts overseas, including dates in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Shanghai, and was seen by a total of 170,000 fans. Fukuoka fans were the first to hear her new single, "Glitter", due to go on sale July 18. They also got a look at the 15-minute promo film, which was filmed in Hong Kong and features a kiss scene with actor Shawn Yue (25).

Never one to hide her ambition to follow in Madonna's shoes, the show also featured Ayu on a crucifix, though the imagery is meaningless for Japanese audiences.

Fun Gossip: Ayumi's Legendary Sleeping Habits

Japan pop queen Ayumi Hamasaki's spending habits are legendary. It is said that Ayumi once left a denim jacket behind in Hong Kong during a business trip. Upon landing in Japan, she immediately 'ordered' one of her 'underlings' to fly back to Hong Kong to retrieve it.

The singer is also known for her generosity towards men during drinking sessions. According to a TV network insider, she is always surrounded by at least 10 men. The group would bar-hop before ending up in her favorite haunts in Shinjuku. And she always picks up the bill.

But her biggest indulgence must be this: She books four first-class seats whenever she flies. The insider said: 'Three of those seats are for her, so she can easily lie around and feel relaxed. 'But you wouldn't believe who the fourth seat is for - her favorite teddy bear!'

Ayumi goes all out to charm HK

    electric NewsPaper

EITHER she really adores Hong Kong, or J-pop queen Ayumi Hamasaki is determined to make her presence felt there.

It started innocuously enough, with her penning the theme song of the Tony Leung-Takeshi Kaneshiro movie Confession Of Pain and gracing the film's premiere at the Fragrant Harbour last December.

Then came her concert tour that included three Asian stops - Hong Kong, Taipei and Shanghai - in March and April.

    Her latest move?

Ayumi, 29, flew to Hong Kong last week and stayed eight days to shoot the music video for her upcoming new single, Glitter/Fated.

She even roped in Hong Kong heart-throb Shawn Yue as her co-star, marking her first collaboration with a Chinese actor.

So, does it mean we will be seeing more of this super diva best known as Japan's Madonna and a walking paparazzi magnet?

Yes, said Mr James Kang, marketing director of Warner Music Singapore, which distributes Ayumi's albums.

'As Japanese artistes reach a saturation stage in their career in Japan, they will need new breakthroughs and new ventures.

'What Ayumi is doing now is to expand her horizon to the whole of Asia and, with so many big stars coming up, she has to woo her Asian fans by making them relate to her and feel like she has come to them.'

After all, there has been numerous reports suggesting that Ayumi's star had fallen back home in Japan, where she sorely lost out to her biggest pop rival Kumi Koda in terms of album sales and media exposure last year.

    THREATENED

Mr Kang, whose company has made household names out of Ayumi and other J-pop acts like Speed and Kiroro here, admitted that Ayumi probably feels 'threatened' by Kumi's outstanding performance last year.

Perhaps, the rivalry is more intensely felt as both artistes belong to the same record label, Avex Trax, where Ayumi has reigned as queen for years before Kumi came along and nearly usurped her throne.

Hong Kong is a 'natural' place to start, not only because it is Asia's showbiz news centre but also because it is home to Avex Trax's regional head office, said Mr Kang.

Just look at how the indomitable Hong Kong media tracked Ayumi's every move last week, and how quickly the news spilled over to China, Taiwan and Singapore.

Even though she gave no interviews and was kept far from reach by her massive entourage of black-clad personal bodyguards, she still won reporters over with her gracious, friendly ways.

The petite songbird with dyed-blonde locks had a smile for everyone and, when not filming, she would turn to wave to the army of photographers who were constantly crowding around the film set.

Not once did she throw tantrums or lose her patience.

Not when she had to redo a kissing scene with Shawn about 20times, reportedly because they could not contain their laughter during the filming.

Nor did she protest when told to run repeatedly in a beautiful but bulky wedding gown at least 10 times.

The song tells of a love story, and Ayumi plays herself in the music video.

During a promotional visit to Hong Kong, the singer meets and falls in love with one of her local bodyguards (Shawn).

One night, the couple sneak out for a date, which ends with a kiss. Obviously basking in love, she spoon-feeds him fishballs and gives him her ring.

They decide to elope, but tragedy strikes when he ends up in a motorbike accident and leaves her stranded in her wedding gown.

Apparently, Ayumi was in high spirits throughout the week, which is a far cry from earlier reports that suggested she was depressed over Hong Kong singer Eason Chan's criticism about her lip-synching during her concert.

Unlike earlier trips to Hong Kong when she indulged in shopping for designer labels, Ayumi focused on work this time.

She appeared to be enjoying Shawn's company and, at one point, she reached out to pat his head and he made a face in return.

Probably out of respect to her, Shawn declined to talk to reporters during the filming process.

Only when it was over did his tongue loosen - briefly.

Shawn, who beat Edison Chen to snag the role, would only say that it was difficult to communicate with Ayumi given their language barrier, but they are friends now.

He wouldn't say if he has her handphone number.

Shawn, 26, also described his co-star as an artiste with her own mind, who would demand a clear understanding of everything she needs to do, reported Oriental Daily News.

But, to fans, Ayumi was Miss Congeniality personified.

Reports said she took the initiative to walk towards fans waiting for her outside her hotel and signed autographs for them.

About 30 fans reportedly chased her around town to catch an extra glimpse of their favourite J-pop star.

    PUBLICITY CAMPAIGN?

Overall, it looked like a massive publicity campaign that has worked in Ayumi's favour.

So, what is next for her?

Mr Kang said she will probably venture into China soon because 'it's the biggest market (in Asia) and the closest territory to Hong Kong'.

Maybe more news will follow when she releases her new single next month.

But her Singapore fans will have to wait to see her again. She first visited the Lion City in 2002 to attend the inaugural MTV Asia Awards.

Mr Kang said: 'I think she will come here only for special mega Asian events. Nothing else can command her presence or price.'

The couple's split was confirmed on July 13th (Friday the 13th, in case you've forgotten). Ayumi herself has passed on the news via her official website to her (exclusive) fan club.

The two met in 2000 through a common acquaintance and started dating in the same year. In September of the following year, they went public with their relationship and got tremendous attention afterward.

Rumours of the breakup have been circulating before, but the latest news on the couple was a countdown to the wedding. This time, the split was confirmed by Ayumi herself.

    More on the Ayu-Tomoya split

J-Pop queen Hamasaki Ayumi (28) and Tokio member Nagase Tomoya (28) have ended their 7-year relationship. Hamasaki revealed the split on her official fan site on Saturday, saying they had broken up the day before. "We had become more than just lovers and are more like family, like brother and sister. And we plan to continue like that and will remain close," she said.

Singer Wada Akiko wasted no time adding her two yen's worth. On her Saturday morning live show, she said, "I thought it wouldn't last. I think it's probably down to Ayu's selfishness. I don't think she'll be able to have a boyfriend for a while. But it's a shame because I wanted them to stay together."

The pair first became friends when they co-starred in a TV Asahi drama series in 1997. Their relationship turned romantic in 2000 and became public in September 2001. There had been rumors of a split, but it was more widely thought that they would end up marrying. They vacationed together in Los Angeles last autumn.
