    Kuitan (Eating Detective) 喰いタン

    Kuitan (Eating Detective)

Date aired: July - Sept 2007
    Number of episodes: 9
    Average Ratings: 17.38%
    Dorama Theme: Kesshou (B'z)

    Starring
    :
Higashiyama Noriyuki - Takano Seiya (Kuitan)
    Morita Go - Noda Ryousuke
    Ichikawa Mikako - Idemizu Kyoko
    Suga Kenta - Kindaichi/Kaneda Hajime
    Kyono Kotomi - Ogata Momo
    Sano Shiro - Igarashi

    Synopsis:

Kuitan is about Takano Seiya, a brilliant and highly recommended detective with an uncanny way of solving mysteries: through his tastebuds and seemingly bottomless stomach. His unsatiable appetite for food earned him the monicker 'Kuitan', short for 'Kuishinbou Tantei' or 'Gluttonous Detective'.

Takano is not just a glutton - he is a connossieur who appreciates and respects food in all its stages: from the farm to the kitchen to the table. This is the reason why he insists on saying 'Itadakimasu' and 'Gochisousama deshita' properly, and hates to see food go to waste.

Together with Noda, Kyoko and Kindaichi, Takano eats his way through the most puzzling cases that is sure to leave you craving -- for more dorama action and food! Mmm...Oishii! - Summary by www.Japinoy.com

    Re: Kuitan (Eating Detective) 喰いタン

I've got to say, the writers of this dorama are brilliant. They were able to make a connection between food and crime. Ang galing. Hehe. Di ko akalain na pwede kang gumawa ng detective movie sa pamamagitan ng pagkain. Way to go!

    Kuitan episode 1 summary

    WARNING: This post contains spoilers.

Kuitan Episode 1 - Gluttonous Detective! Eat the evidence at the scene?

The aptly named Holmes Agency is a struggling detective office wanting of clients. Their 'biggest' client of the day is a bratty elementary school boy with a missing cat.

    By japinoy
Takano Seiya aka Kuitan, on his nth meal on the plane

Their prayer for a bigger case came a few hours later, courtesy of their connections with the Minato Police: a murder of a business man. 'Balikbayan' detective Takano Seiya, just fresh out of the plane, finds himself rushing to the scene of the crime with Ryosuke and Kyoko, his colleagues at Holmes Agency.

Yummy sushi from Usagi Sushi shop

The three managed to sneak into the house to take a peek into the crime scene. While Ryousuke and Kyoko appeared disgusted at seeing the dead body, Kuitan has his eyes on something else: a box of sushi left on the coffee table. Ryousuke and Kyoko can only watch in horror as Kuitan struts into the living room, kneels in front of the table and eat the sushi (but not before saying 'Itadakimasu', of course!). The official investigators turned around just in time to see him gobble up their evidence.

The Holmes trio were rounded up and brought to the police for questioning by a temperamental inspector, Ogata Momo, who is often called Momo-chan in the office. Apparently, big boss Yamauchi is a fan of Kuitan and lets the group go scot free if they promise to help with the case. The police themselves were rather puzzled with the case: no forced entry, no blood at the scene, no disturbed surroundings.

The murder case was evidently a piece of cake for Kuitan - rather, a piece of sushi. Yep, the secret lies with the sushi.

Ryousuke and Kuitan at Usagi Sushi, "investigating"

*** SPOILERS BEGIN HERE. Highlight below to read. ***

Apparently, the preparation of eat-in sushi is different from sushi for take-away or delivery. I won't go into the details, do watch it for yourself! :P When Kuitan ate the sushi at the crime scene, he knew it was eat-in sushi. He then paid a visit to the Usagi Sushi shop to test out his theory. Eventually, he managed to extract a confession out of the desperate sushiya-san.

The victim was a ruthless loan shark who was extorting money from the sushiya-san. One day, he pays a visit to the sushi shop to further bully the gentle shop owner into handing over more money. The sushiya-san finally snapped and strangled the loan shark to death with his apron belt. The sushiya-san then drove the dead body using his delivery truck to the victim's home and arranged the scene to make it appear that the victim was eating sushi at home when he was murdered.

The sushiya-san was not really a bad person, and he eventually turned himself in.

    *** SPOILERS END HERE ***

End of episode 1. Stay tuned for the next food adventure! ^_^

    Re: Kuitan episode 1 summary

ikaw din po laging gutom? ang sarap nga po ng role ni kuitan. laging busog and then masasarap lahat ang mga featured menu.

i will recall all the featured menu and then i will post it here. so far ang natatandaan ko po ay yung nabe, koroke, sushi at okonomiyaki. aside from the foods, nagagandahan ako sa yokohama. parang semi laid back ang buhay nila unlike sa nakikita ko sa mga doramas shot in tokyo.

domo arigatou. i will do my best for more postings. Computer  Smile

I'm glad you guys liked this dorama. ^_^

    Kuitan episode 2 summary

    WARNING: This post contains spoilers.

Kuitan Episode 2 - Eat all of Chinatown

A Chinese restaurant owner was found dead, floating in the river; his wife, though relatively unharmed, was taken to a hospital to be treated for shock while their young son Yan was under police custody. Igarashi, Momo-chan's subordinate, entrusts Yan-kun to Holmes Agency, promising extra money for 'babysitting' the victim's son while the murder investigation is ongoing. Meanwhile, an autopsy on the victim revealed that his stomach contained tofu, ground meat, chili peppers, miso and green onions - ingredients for Mabo Tofu. This lead investigators to believe that if they can find the restaurant where he last ate, they will find the murderer. Thus, Kuitan's services had been enlisted again.

    By japinoy
    Mabo Tofu - Mmm...oishii!

As Kuitan makes his rounds of Yokohama Chinatown's almost 200 Chinese restaurants, Ryohsuke and Hajime-kun (aka Kindaichi, aka the bratty kid who keeps on losing his cat) were kidnapped by goons who mistook the kid as Yan, the victim Wong's son. Eventually realizing their mistake, they let Kindaichi go, with the orders to bring back Yan-kun as his replacement. If he will not do as he was told, they will kill Ryohsuke. Kindaichi made his way back to Holmes Agency, pretending to look for his cat and would not talk about his abduction. Eventually, Kuitan managed to get through to him by a good sermon, a meal and a good whack to the head.

Ryohsuke and Kindaichi plead with their kidnappers

The police learned that Wong was killed over a card-skimming device (used for fraud) - that was cleverly hidden inside Yan-kun's game console. Now, after learning their deal with Kindaichi, they decided to use Yan-kun as bait. Meanwhile, Kuitan, Kyoko and Kindaichi scour the city for Ryohsuke's hiding place.

Kuitan, Kyoko and Kindaichi pretending to be out on a family dinner

*** SPOILERS BEGIN HERE. Highlight below to read. ***

It was almost past the kidnappers' deadline when Kuitan dragged Kyoko and Kindaichi inside a Japanese restaurant. Expectedly, the two protested and insisted that they look for more Chinese restaurants instead. Kuitan did not listen and asked them to pretend to be a family while they ordered traditional Japanese fare - niku dango (meatballs), hiyayakko (cold tofu) and natto (fermented soybeans). These same ingredients are also used to make Mabo Tofu! Kuitan and company concluded that Ryohsuke was being held captive in that same restaurant. Kuitan and company were finally able to rescue Ryohsuke, but not after an exciting 'combat' involving a knife (bad guy #1) and a  pair of chopsticks (Kuitan).

The murderers were eventually captured, and the Minato Police awarded certificates to each of the Holmes Agency member - including Kindaichi, who is now an official member of the group.

Sometimes I make the same mistakes that's why God gives me problems to make me a mature person (seryoso daw ito. Di naman di ba?).
