    Aikido... anyone interested?

Just in case anyone is interested, please do tell me. I used to practice aikido two years ago but then I became very busy with work. The class is usually held in Cubao, near Arayat market, and sensei is a Filipino. He is very good in terms of form since there are many variants of aikido.

Females are encouraged to join. It is actually not a harmful art but it does give quite a pain kasi me mga break falls, rolling, stretching. Saka hindi siya competitive. Kung meron pong interested na manood ng practice before enrolling, pwede po para ma-meet nyo si Sensei Bong and get an idea of the class and the rates of the lessons.

Tapos baka pwede pa makausap yung Japanese instructor na kaibigan ni Sensei, si Kojiro sensei who also teaches aikido and karate.

    Big Smile

I learned Aikido when I was around nine. Sensei was a Filipino too. It was just a for one summer but I learned so much like body movement and flow, timing and of course defense. Combat Aikido is something I don't understand, however.

    Re: Aikido... anyone interested?

It's actually a new form of Aikido. Sabi ni Sensei marami daw kasing form ang Aikido, depende daw sa nagtuturo. Our Sensei follows a combination of the traditional and a few modern deriviations pero mine-maintain nya yung form ng art.

Kahit ako nalilito pa. but the one thing I've learned so far is that it is like learning a new language. If you don't practice it, you won't progress  Big Smile  Saka pala dapat walang competition kasi Aikido is not a competitive martial art

Konnichiwa Xia-san! Taga-san ka b? Medyo malayo nga if you'll be coming from Fairview or Novaliches.

Dati nagkakaroon ng classes sa La Salle Greenhills kaya lang mostly mga elementary student ang nag-eenroll dun - beginners class tapos me strict course outline which is good if you don't have any martial arts background.  Big Smile

Ulitin ko lang pala na what Sensei teaches is not a competitive form of Aikido Geeked

    Re: Aikido... anyone interested?

I just read this email from my former schoolmate and aikidoka. he said may balita na by the end of the year, Moriteru Ueshiba, current doshu and grandson of the Founder of Aikido - Morihei Useshiba - may be coming to the Philippines to hold an Aikido seminar.

This is good news for many Aikido practitioners since the Doshu doesn't really go out of Japan to hold seminars.

Hai! I'm interested. But do they have other venues other than cubao? How much would it cost? And what's the training sked?

    hirodayuy:

If you ask me, Aikido can be considered as a martial art since it was formed by O-Sensei from other martial arts that he was able to master. It's not really meant for self-defense but of an art form and spirituality - "the way of harmony" ika nga.

There have been a lot of variations in Aikido nowadays. There are some schools who teach Aikido in an aggressive manner, and some in a defensive one. In our Sensei's case, we are taught the form of the art. In short, para kaming sumasayaw.

If you want to take up Aikido lessons, I guess it will depend on which area will you concentrate - the form or the martial way.  But take into consideration na Aikido is not like school na you will become a black belt after a year of daily training, kasi ang application ng would-be black belts (yung authentic ha),  e Kinukuha sa Hombu, Japan, hehehe

Will ask my former Aikido sensei if there's a school in or near Alabang. Pero kung saan school ka man mapunta sana magaling na sensei ang makuha mo.
