Japanese Actress Matsuda Seiko to Star in Movie 'Grave of the Fireflies'
<FONT face="Trebuchet MS">Japanese pop diva Matsuda Seiko (45) is to make her first movie appearance in seven years. She will play the role of the mother in an adaptation of Nosaka Akiyuki's famous novel "Hotaru no Haka" (Grave of the Fireflies). Filming started yesterday in Awajishima in Hyogo prefecture, and the movie is scheduled to open next summer. The project was to be directed by Kuroki Kazuo (1930-2006), but following his death last year it was taken over by his apprentice, Hyuugaji Tarou (41). The novel, a restrained but powerful antiwar story about a young brother and sister struggling for survival in WWII, was previously adapted into a hugely successful anime feature in 1988.

Matsuda Seiko to perform in Okinawa 24 years after being attacked by fan during concert

Matsuda Seiko (45) has not performed in Okinawa since she was attacked by a fan 24 years ago.



Back in March 28, 1983 during a performance when a crazed fan ran
out and tried to attack Matsuda with a makeshift steel weapon. Matsuda
tried to protect herself with her hands but was struck a few times.
Matsuda was rushed to the hospital where no brain abnormalities were
seen on x-ray.



The attacker said in court that he attacked Matsuda because he wanted to become famous.



Despite the painful incident that kept her away from performing in
Okinawa for over two decades, Matsuda performed at the Laguna Garden
Hotel on the 5th.

Whoa~ I just found this Seiko info after searching for stuff on Kudo Shizuka.

In 1992, like Pink Lady and Akina
(Akina Nakamori) before her, Seiko tried to break the American market by teaming up with one of the New Kids
on the Block of all people. And like Pink Lady and Akina before her, she failed.
Instead, she turned that into an attention-getting scandal with said New-Kid -
which resulted in her (first) divorce). But she did manage to get a kid out of

Seiko Matsuda to appear in "Bones"

Singer and actress Seiko Matsuda (47) is the next Japanese celebrity to appear in an American television drama. It has been learned that she will play a Japanese journalist in an upcoming episode of the crime drama "Bones."

Currently in its fifth season, "Bones" stars Emily Deschanel as a forensic anthropologist and David Boreanaz as an FBI special agent. The show also become a hit in Japan, and has been shown on broadcast television there since 2008.

Matsuda, who will be the first Japanese person on the show, was offered the role by the show's producers. She was reportedly chosen for her English ability (all of her lines are in English), her acting skills, and her name recognition. During the taping, the staff were impressed by her professional spirit. Although the role is limited to a single episode, Matsuda remarked that she would like to play the part again.

Other Japanese stars who have recently been cast in American dramas include Hiroyuki Sanada (49) in "Lost" and Yuko Takeuchi (29) in "FlashForward."
