Leah Dizon’s goes “Sweet Razzer” and possible talent agency problems?

In a recent article on Mainichi Shimbun, the article goes into Leah
Dizon’s foray into fashion but also possible talent agency problems.



According to the article, “Dizon was chosen as a poster girl for
Bandai’s new clothing label “Sweet Razzer.” Obviously, the money must
have been good enough for her to get over the cringe-inducing English
name — that, or the chance to design her own duds, which she sported at
a press conference to announce her involvement.”



“Reports say Dizon appeared cheerful during the presentation,
happily doling out peace signs for photographers. However,
entertainment hacks reckon talent agency troubles could spell Dizon’s
return to the U.S., and when one slightly obtuse journo quizzed her
about things that had gotten her angry recently, she ducked the
question with an “Excuse me.”

Leah Dizon (??·????, Ria Dizon?, born as Leah Donna Dizon on September 24, 1986) is a model, singer and a Japanese TV personality, born in Las Vegas, Nevada, US.[1] She has two older brothers, an older sister, and two younger brothers. Her astrological sign is Libra, and her Chinese zodiac sign is Tiger. Her blood type is O.[1] Her ethnicities include Chinese, Filipino and French.


Career
Leah Dizon received moderate success in America including the cover features of various import car magazines. However, her modeling career in the United States gained her much attention and a fanbase overseas, predominantly in Asia. One year after her pictures were posted up on the internet, she already had 2,000,000 hits from search engines.[1] Following the advice of her fans, Dizon sent a demo tape to a talent agency in Japan and in April of 2006, after being accepted, she immediately moved to Tokyo. In October 2006, she released her first photobook titled Petite Amie (Girlfriend in French), which was ranked as the third best selling photobook of that year.[2]

Dizon made her debut as a singer under the record label Victor Entertainment and on February 14, 2007, she released her first CD single and DVD package, Softly (VIZL-216),[3] which peaked at number #7 in the Oricon Weekly Chart. At the same time, she also released her second photobook titled Hello! Leah.[4].

On May 30, 2007, Dizon released her second single Koi Shiyo?, which also peaked at #7 on the Oricon Weekly Chart. The title track is described as a 'grooving, up-tempo dance song' and the single features 2 B-sides: Could you be that one? and ?????~ Love Story.[5] The title track, Koi Shiyo? is being used in a Lotte TV ad[6] while Could you be that one? is being used in a PlayStation 3 Ninja Gaiden Sigma TV ad, with Dizon starring in both commercials.

On May 26, 2007, Dizon presented the best male video award at the MTV Video Music Awards Japan.[7]

Her next single entitled L.O.V.E U is scheduled to be released on August 8, 2007. [8]

For you to be big in the Japanese market, you have to do that. So that's what she did, and now she's really popular in Japan. Secondary na lang siguro ung career as singer ^_^

The CM features the pair clad in kimono and talking to each other in English and Japanese and not understanding each other. I'm so happy! This is my first album and I did my very best.

This album has a lot of your expressions and feelings, but which song is your favorite?
I think it's [Aishiteru]. This is the first song I wrote in Japanese by myself. This is a deep song that is connected to my self-confidence and maturity when I came to Japan. There's also [Drive me crazy]. Written from a negative point of view, this song is different from the rest in the album, which goes around the theme "love". I'm happy with it.

You also did one song with your younger brother. How was it working together with him?
Since our age gap is not that big, I was worried that we'd fight and all, but in reality, nothing like that happened (laughs). We played the guitar together, and managed to make a demo tape. But he went home (to our country) before my recording finished so he hasn't been able to listen to the final version.

One surprising thing is that you did a cover of Culture Club's [Time], which was a hit in the early 80s, before you were born.
That is right. I know this song and like it. So when we were talking about which song to make into a cover, I just said 'Culture Club's Time!'. This song is a bit sad but good, so I'm really happy with this as a cover.

Lastly, tell us the reason behind the title [Destiny Line]
In Japanese, [Destiny Line] is ???. Fate is like a road, right? You get lost sometimes, but you still move on. My coming to Japan is fate. To mark the launching of her first album, popular gravure idol and singer Leah Dizon (20) held a commemorative event yesterday at Tokyo's Tower Records (Shibuya).

Leah performed 4 songs from the album, including [Again and Again], which she co-wrote with her younger brother. Leah presented on a stage that is less than 1 meter away from the audience.

Leah also had a talk show where she did not have a translator, showcasing her already improving Japanese. The singer-idol turns 21 on the 24th of the month. She reminisces "Before, during my birthday, I would be bagging groceries at my part time job at the supermarket".

Leah Dizon is currently one of Japan's hottest supermodels, but rumors of a dark past and copycat actresses appearing in porn have got her sponsors shaking in their boots.

Dizon, 20, the daughter of a French-American mother and ethnic Chinese Filipino father, has taken Japan by storm since arriving here from the United States late last year and now boasts of appearing in commercials for over 10 major companies. But there've been plenty of others jumping onto the bandwagon, and her success has sparked an amazing number of look-alike actresses turning up in blue movies.

Doubts about Dizon are causing consternation at Kao Corp., a prominent toiletries maker whose Essential shampoo ads are among the most prestigious in the country. Dizon is currently appearing in the commercials, joining a long line of prominent actresses who have plugged the shampoo in the past such as Kumiko Goto, Takako Matsu, Yuko Takeuchi and Chiemi Hori. Such a high profile advertisement in Japan demands that the figure up front have a squeaky clean past, but Dizon's time in the U.S. is casting clouds over her reputation.

"Leah is certainly hot as far as it comes to being a pin-up model. That's made her really popular among young guys. But you've gotta wonder whether that gives her much appeal among young women, who are the target audience for Essential shampoo," an ad agency insider tells Shukan Gendai.

But the reservations about Dizon are not just to do with her advertising affect.

"Dizon's name was put forward for the commercial in the spring and the decision to use her made in June. The exotic looks she gets from her parents and her long, flowing hair made her ideal for a shampoo commercial," the insider says. "Then she got caught up in a mini-scandal. Shukan Post ran photos of her that sparked a huge discussion about whether her genitals were sticking out of her swimsuit. Her sponsors were frantic."

A close look at the pictures of Dizon taken sticking her butt toward the camera reveals there is some justification to the claims of exposed genitals, an absolute no-no in Japan. The photo was taken when Dizon was a grid girl in the U.S. Publication of the shots sparked a flood of nude pictures posted online of Dizon's American model days, including swimsuit shots and at least one photo of semi-nude Leah Dizon and using only her hands to cover her otherwise exposed breasts.

"There were even photos of her private life posted on the Net, including one of her clinging onto a guy at a party. There're even rumors of an American guy going around claiming to be a friend of Leah's and offering to sell some really raunchy pics of her," a showbiz source tells Gendai.

Kao has apparently been involved in strenuous discussions with Dizon's handlers about the possibility of further skeletons in the model's closet. But the public face Kao is showing is not one of concern.

"We know nothing about any such talk, so can't comment on it," a Kao spokesman tells Gendai. "We believed Leah Dizon would receive the firm support of those people who use our Essential shampoo, so decided to use her in our commercials."

Being the face of Kao is not the only area where Dizon is being used, though. Shukan Bunshun notes that an unprecedented five Dizon look-alike porno films have already surfaced in Japan's vigorous adult movie industry. Look-alikes have long been an active genre in the Japanese porno world, but never before has any celebrity sparked a reaction so quickly.

One porn actress calling herself Rina Dison - and who does bear a remarkable resemblance to Dizon -- has already released two stick flicks, the cover of each featuring her in a pose identical to those Dizon adopted for well-known posters.

"We were the first to get a Dizon look-alike movie on the market and it's been a hit for us this year," the adult movie seller tells Bunshun. "Our actress said she feels very sorry for Dizon."

Popular adult movie actress Anna Kanzaki has also used her similarity to Dizon to release a look-alike lechery movie. And Yu Hazuki, another well-known purveyor of pornography, has also appeared in two Dizon similarity stick flicks.

"People are always telling us Hazuki looks more like Dizon than any of the look-alikes," a representative from the seller of the movies says. "We're taking special care to make sure we don't make Hazuki look too much like the real thing."

Dizon's talent agency, meanwhile, is not amused.

"We're totally ignoring these places," an agency spokesman tells Shukan Bunshun. "We want them to take steps that will avoid causing misunderstandings, but if we started complaining to all these places, we'd be so busy that's the only work we'd get done."

Naku to be honest, di ko pa ito napanood. Actually, nung nakita ko na vid ni Ryo and Leah, parang di pa ganun katunog ung name ni Leah so di ko masyadong pinapansin until I researched who she is. Then marami na rin akong nabasang huge Leah fan kasi si Ryo so di malayong mega-react siya nung magkita sila. Hehehehe. Well, Leah is pretty and siguro kahit sino naman magkaka-crush sa kanya.

I saw that vid long before we had this thread. Nabanggit lang namin siya sa isang thread called Pinoys who made it big in Japan (/forums/t/710.aspx). If I remember correctly, I saw the video in a blog in vox.

About 1 Litre, I don't watch local channels anymore so I wouldn't know.

There aren't a lot of Leah fans right now, but in the near future, I'm sure dadami rin yan. Lalo na ngayong irerelease din niya ung album niya dito sa Pilipinas, maski wala pang actual date.

TOKYO — If anyone has any doubts about the power of the Internet,
look no further than the meteoric rise of American singer Leah Dizon.
Born in Las Vegas, Dizon’s modeling activities attracted such a huge
following on websites in Japan, South Korea, China and other Asian
countries that she knew she had to take on the challenge of working in
Japan.

“I always wanted to be a singer, and I loved dancing. It
was very natural for me,” said Dizon, 21. “When I was 12, I started
listening to J-pop and wanted to come to Japan, but I didn’t speak
Japanese. I’d listen to the music and wonder what the words meant. It
pulled me in. But I gave up on that dream for awhile. When I graduated,
I moved to Hollywood to study acting and do modeling.”

That’s
when big things started happening. “I saw modeling as just a part-time
job, but it got much bigger than I thought it would because of the
Internet. One of my friends searched for my name on Yahoo China and
Yahoo Japan and a million hits came up with message boards. I was
really surprised. Then my old dream came back about pursuing a career
in Japan.”

Dizon started getting modeling offers from agencies in Asia. Instead
of accepting them, she decided to make a demo tape of herself singing
and sent it to an agency in Japan. “They asked me to make another tape
singing with karaoke. Then they wanted to see me dance, so I made
another tape. Next they asked me to sing and dance. Finally they said
yes. Two weeks later, I was on a plane.”

That was April of
2006. Japan was a challenge at first, Dizon admits. “In the States, I
had been independent since I was 18. Then I came to Japan and I was
like a baby. I couldn’t read Japanese, I couldn’t order food, so that
was a bit of a shock.” She took vocal lessons for an audition and
started learning Japanese as her career took off. This year has seen
her CD debut “Softly,” TV commercials, a third single “LOVE” and her
1st album “Destiny Line.”

“Sometimes I feel like everything is
moving so fast that I have to keep up. When I first arrived, I thought
I would study Japanese for 2-3 years and then maybe I’ll accomplish
something. It’s a dream come true.” Her first album is an experimental
mixture of pop, R&B, hip hop and ballads. “I got a chance to write
a lot of the lyrics. My brother helped me to compose one song. I put a
lot of myself into this album,” she says.

Despite her growing
fame, Dizon tries to live a normal life. “Sometimes it’s hard if I am
at the grocery store and people are staring at me,” she admits.
Appearances at events and on TV are becoming more frequent as she gets
better at Japanese. Her fashion style has changed since her arrival in
Japan. “In Las Vegas and California, it is very laid back, T-shirt and
jeans. I’d only dress nice if I had a reason. Here, everyone looks nice
every day,” she says.

On her days off, Dizon hangs out at
Nishi-Azabu, Ginza and Omotesando. “I also like badminton but don’t
play it regularly,” she says. Her fan base is growing and her blog gets
a lot of messages from fans. She is excited about her first live event
at Shibuya O East on Nov 7. “I’m really looking forward to being with
my fans. It was their interest in me that brought me to Japan. They
helped me get back that old dream. I am a product of my fans.”

Then good for her! I seriously hope she will no longer be known as a gravure/IM idol sooner or later. Singer na lang. Sa tingin ko pa nga, she's a better dancer than a singer. She's beautiful and talented, and she doesn't need to do gravure to be successful. Actually, she is successful now.

Popular gravure idol Leah Dizon
is the latest celebrity to be caught in a rumored relationship by
tabloid magazine FRIDAY. In late August, a man was seen picking up
Dizon at her apartment and driving her back to his apartment. On
another occasion, she stopped at a convenience store before going to
his place, where she stayed for the night.


The 26-year-old man is actually the son of her management
agency's president. When asked about the matter, her agency said that

I don't think may pinaayos sa mukha kanya kasi her eyes are naturally big and her nose is less than perfect pag side view. It's just that nung lumipat siya sa Japan, they made her start wearing yung contact lenses na pampalaki ng iris para magmukha siyang doll pero mas gusto ko pa rin yung natural eyes niya.

Anyway, I'm a Leah fan. Sobrang naaaliw ako whenever she appears sa shows ng Kanjani8 at KAT-TUN because they act really funny when she's around, parang gigil na gigil sila sa kanya.:p Minsan lang eh OA yung pahinhin effect niya gaya ng pagtakip ng bibig niya pag tumatawa pero mukhang may nag-coach sa kanya na gawin yun. Sa isip niya siguro big no-no sa Japan yung tumawa na kita ang ngipin so I guess I can't really blame her pero nakakainis kung minsan kasi ok lang naman siguro na mag-giggle ng normal once in a while.

I guess some people just can't grasp why she's demure now (mostly girls lang kasi the boys don't seem to mind as much haha) but then again, that image change was necessary. May nabasa akong article na yung image ni Leah sa America was too aggressive and intimidating for the Japanese market so she had to change her image completely in order to go mainstream. Actually, nung una siyang naga-appear sa Japanese tv, she was a bit feisty, jokingly punching her comedian co-hosts pero may nag-advise siguro sa kanya na wag gawin yun and as a result, she's what she is today. In fairness naman, bumenta yung bagong image niya sa Japan kasi naging really successful yung mga photobook niya at sumikat siya maski na papaano at ang dami niyang nakuha na mga endorsements and commercials.

Hindi ako sigurado kung ano ba talaga ang kalagayan ng pamilya niya pero
ang alam ko single parent yung household nila. Sabi ni Leah na she already started working when she was 12
or 13 years old at a family friend's boutique because she felt obliged
to help her mom. Right after high school, she became independent and
moved to Hollywood to pursue her dream and that's one of the reasons

Hindi Avex si Leah, sa Victor siya. Yung guy freelance ata pero well known and has worked with various artists from different labels. Di ako sigurado kung ex talaga siya ni Boa (yun kasi ang sabi) pero definitely nagdate sila kasi may mga litrato na napublish pa sa magazine. Yung guy at si Boa nagho-holding hands at naghahalikan tapos nagbigay ng statement ang Avex denying everything at ang sabi nila ay naguuusap lang daw yung dalawa tungkol sa trabaho pero obvious na date talaga.

Kengo Okuchi, 28, Sayaka Yamaguchi, 30, Toshio Kakei, 47, Risa Nakama, 27, Leah Dizon, 23, and Toru Baba, 22, attend an event to promote the stage play “The Day the Atomic Bomb Was Dropped on Hiroshima.”

Nakama, whose parents are both Japanese-American models, will be making her stage debut. “The atomic bombing is such a serious topic. I hope audiences will feel something powerful from the stage,” she said. The play runs Aug 6-22 at Theatre Cocoon in Shibuya.
