Hi, Im just new here. Please bear with me if my questions may sound stupid.
My grandmother is pure japanese. My grandparents are legally married here in the Philippines. Does this make my father a japanese citizen?
What is the fastest way to get a visa and be able to visit my relatives in Japan?

Thank you

Thank you well if you want to get visa to go to Japan and visit your relatives, your relatives must be the one to invite you in going to Japan(its better if you have communications so that you can talk about that properly),I mean is there must be an evidence to the japanese immigration/embassy that your relatives or whenever you want to visit is want you to visit them in Japan, and if you're only a visitor and no relatives, I think you must show properties, or businesses that you own, for them to allow you to visit their country.I think that's the rules and regulations their following right now, I'm not yet sure about it......maybe its better if you ask directly to the Japan embassy for you to have an idea for visiting your relatives......

Let me ask you first, where was your father born? if your grandmother is a pure japanese and married here, then still your grandmother is a japanese citizen...but first you must ask your father if possible if he's born here or not. If he's born here then he must be a Filipino citizen, but if your father was born in Japan then technically he's a Japanese citizen. But, if there's a situation that your father was born here then wants to stay to Japan, then he must be a citizen or an immigrant. Take note,an immigrant person can go back and forth in Japan and Philippines easily. But if he's a Japanese citizen or a Filipino citizen, then he can only visit here in Philippines or in Japan at the maximum time of 6 months if he had visiting visa. Then if he's an immigrant, then he can stay whether here in Philippines or in Japan as long as he wants. But its very important to know the country where was your father born, because it is the key of your unanswerable questions whether your father is a Japanese citizen or not....

P.S. you must importantly ask about it, for you to answer your questions .......( hope this might help you a bit)

hello toolbox chan! i'll just make necessary corrections.

acc to japan immigration and philippine law, it is the citizenship of the father which is followed for the citizenship of the children. thus, reg your question, unfortunately, NO. BUT there's a process in which your grandma can apply for your father's (and siblings) citizenship, a japanese passport and own kosiketohon. i know of a case where the japanese mother married to a filipino applied a japanese citizenship for her children. all male siblings acquired the japanese citizenship/passport and have their own kosiketohon. this makes the male sibling's children automatic japanese citizens even thou they prefer to stay here in the phils.

japanese mother married to an alien...the children do not automatically acquire the japanese citizenship. it requires a kinda tedious process BUT it can happen.

a japanese citizen visiting the phils can stay only for 21 days, after which he/she must report to our BID for the extension and granting would depend on his/her reason to stay longer. if much longer he/she must meet the requirements for the permanent resident's visa. a japan visitor's visa is issued on a relative basis too, even a visiting relative visa and you will need the support of your relatives based in japan. wigent-san fully knows the cases. he used to work in the embassy.

is your grandma from okinawa? i know a lot of grandmas married to filipinos who are members of okinawan society.

ahh, btw, i remember...ur father can apply for a nikkeijin visa thru grandma's relatives' supporting documents. once in japan he can work and apply for an LPR (lawful permanent residence) visa. if i remember right, he has to stay, work and pay taxes for 3 straight years to be eligibe for a citizenship. once done, you can be applied for a japanese citizenship.

kc all i know about that is this u might be afilipino yet a japanese citizen you might be a japanese but filipino citizen . what i do know about it is that everyone who lives in a country 4 more than 10 years will be concider as a citizen of a country where he is staying. it is a process. if ur born in japan yet u live here in the philippines 4 more than ten years that would mean your a filipino citizen. pro xempre depende din u n sa paguusap nyo ng embasy. cguro ask others pa about it.

@ ijeshi san, u mean dual citizenship? sa phil immig law, pwede but japan law, they don't allow dual. in every migration there's the so-called strict compliance to the requirements and a long process. it doesn't necessarily follow if a filipino, or any alien for that matter, was born in japan he will be considered a japanese citizen. in USA yes, once you were born in USA or its territory, you will turn automatically a US citizen. i don't see any convenience in any of japan immig law. if US immig law is strict, i find japan's stricter.
