sa totoo lang, i'm a big fan of hyaku-en shops!! everything for only JPY100 or P50. ;) o P55 na ata ngayon. anyway, the items they have are quite good. they have everything from food, cooking utensils, art materials, kikay tools...everything you need!

So where are these stores generally located?

\100 shops are located near residential or other commercial establishments. They can be large or small (more choices to less). In any case, it's cheap in there especially when you buy the bigger ones (small ramen cup vs. big ramen cup- of course you'll pick the bigger one. It has the same price). :p
HI!Here are some shopping tips that i could share,if you are in Tokyo, you could visit Ueno,
Ameyoko arcade. It is the place where they have what ever you are looking for. Also,if you want to shop for teen-age things,Shibuya,101 dept. store and Harajuku arcade is a must-visit place. If you are familiar in Nakano-ku(ward),near shinjuku, you could go to Sun Mall arcade where you could find clothes, shoes, bags, even very cheap foods on the Ground floor and all the way to the Basement. If you are a Manga fan,you could find "mandarake"(a manga, toy figures shop)located at the 3rd floor of Sun Mall plaza. There are also two 100 yen shops inside the plaza.:)

mandarake! :D:Y i almost spent all of my shopping money in this place! but if you can't find mandarake, there are also smaller stores (like book-off) which also sell new and second-hand manga and books.
ameyoko? is that near the ueno zoo? yeah, that's a good place too. they have really nice clothes (mostly for teens, though) and great accessories.
of course for electronics, akihabara. :) but if you're "unfortunate" enough to be in osaka, i guess den-den town would be the best choice for electronics. hehe. kicchan would know. :p;)
yeah, ameyoko is near ueno zoo.I also recommend "??·???? "if you're familiar, they have store branches almost everywhere in Tokyo, they also have it in Osaka.A one-stop shop.:D:Y

back then, i usually did my shopping in jusco dept store. when there's a sale. it's really a sale event ... like the sm malls in the phils. and of course the Y100 shop (hakouyen). hehehe! pero sa manila ... meron na ring mga ganitong concept like the Y100 shop.they named it ... theP88 store w/c is mostly found at rob's dept stores. items are japanese kind but almost all of them are made in china. well, just like in Y100 shops. :p

almost ten years ago i was in japan with a kababayan in a department store in hiroshima. i was surprised because she told me that those (pointing to maong not properly folded in cabinets) pants are free. is this true? she told me, yeah, it's written in kanji that they are free. has anyone seen this in japan?

having stayed in japan for quite a long time, i never saw this kind of freebie. u should have asked the staff and got one for urself and my omiyagi. the only freebie i got was all those tissues given at the train stations left and right and the lighters w/c later i found out those kinds are being sold in manila for P25.00 each. hehehe! i was able to bring lots of tissues to manila but not the lighters. :'( u are only allowed 2 lighters at the plane. Sa Daiso or any 100 yen shop marami mabibili na mura. Kung clothes, maganda sa Shibuya and Harajuku (Takeshita Street). Kung pasalubong, sa Musashi mura ang chocolates. ^_^

Hi whiteboy-san. Welcome to Japinoy.com.
Try giving yourself half-a-day for each destination you want to go. I've been some of the places you've mentioned so I think that time is enough. But sometimes it depends on how picky you are in shopping. It may take you longer ^_^
