Ryu Murakami is a novelist and filmmaker from Nagasaki, Japan. His very first work is a short novel entitled, Almost Transparent Blue. Despite being unknown in Japanese literature, Murakami received critical acclaim for his novel as well as the prestigious Akutagawa Prize the same year the novel was published.
His second (and longer) novel, Coin Locker Babies, was just as successfull as ATB.
Among his other works are 69, In the Miso Soup, Ecstasy, Kyoko, and Line.
Ryu Murakami is not in any way related to Haruki. :)
